Brazing joins workpieces with a filler metal that melts below the base materials. The molten filler is drawn through a prepared joint by capillary action, allowing brass and certain dissimilar metals to be joined without melting the main pieces.

Clean surfaces, correct clearance and protection from oxidation are essential. Flux or a controlled atmosphere helps the filler flow and bond across the prepared joint.
